When I was admitted to INTO Pathway I didn`t know exactly what I was going to do and how I will be taking courses related to English language proficiency. It looked as it would be quite challenging as it was for the first time I was going to study English at graduate level. I took it as an opportunity to learn and excel in the national language of the country where I would be doing my masters. For starters I was under impression that it would be quite easy knowing English language since school but it was in my first few classes I realized that these subject are not easy and what I had studied earlier was very different also the education systems are very contradicting to each other so this was quite a challenge.
I started my course and here I was in my Masters in telecommunication with additional pathway courses of PROV 504 and EAP. I remember in my first class in EAP I was asked to talk about my major my past studies and experiences. This was for the first time in class of strangers I was asked to speak that too without any preparation. This gave me an idea of how the course is going to be and gave me a certain confidence in how should I be well prepared in any situation to atleast speak on myself with confidence. Then in PROV classes I was asked to make a calender of my plan of study for the entire semester. At first I didn’t had any clue why the professor is asking me to do that but now at this point in my course where I have completed all my assignments on due date and I always had a head start about what is going to come next what exams are scheduled when and how much time I should give to study each subject. This has made a very positive impact on me I will be making this plan of study for rest of my course for all the semesters this would help me plan ahead of the class schedule and It make sure that I will be well prepared for the tests and exams. The assignments in EAP program were very new and challenging as these assignments made us annotate loads of passages and we were to explain the concept behind the passage in our words and make a summary on it. This practice is going to be very helpful for me as I would be researching in my field, and for that I would be reading skimming through hundreds of articles and this activity will surely help me shortlisting on references citations and getting the required information from the passage.
These experiences at the pathway class will definetly help me in my future, but presently the biggest impact it has made on me is given me confidence not only in speaking in front of people but also it made me a very improved writer than I was in past. Writing letters , essays, summary , analytical writing sessions, short passages has all helped me in improving my writing skills and these all will be useful for me in my further courses and even at places where I would be working. So pathway program as a whole has been very knowledgeable as well as fun at the same time and has taught me a lot which would be very much helpful for me in my future projects.
